001. Corsinthia's Bed and Breakfast Owned by one of the many human's within the town, Corsinthia's B&B is located outside of Olympia. Built on a large seven acre plot of land, The Bed and Breakfast also has a lovely garden with much canadian influence, and many stunning plants which have adapted to the temperatures. The building itself has over twelve rooms, and a full staff. Corsinthia herself lives on the the seven estate, in a small one floor home, enough to accomodate herself, and her seven cats. If you're lucky, she may pay a visit to the B&B.
002. Tundra Breeze Inn The Tundra Breeze Inn was one of the first public buildings erected in the budding port of Olympia right after the tavern. In the beginning, it was often a place of business for local whores, as well as a hide out for those on the run from the law. Sine then, it has undergone several renevations, the most notably near 1890, when the original New England facade was exchanged for a more modern Victorian look. Currently, it boasts four floors, though the top level isn't so much used anymore. There is also a complimentary daily newspaper, weekday courtesy car service to the downtown area, 5 elegant meeting rooms, a business center, 24-hour concierge service, same day valet dry cleaning service and afternoon tea and sherry (4 p.m. - 6 p.m.). Nearby fitness facilities (Olympia Plaza Athletic Club, two blocks from the hotel) complete with swimming pool, sauna, and tennis courts are also available.
003. Luminesque A nightclub located not far from the college. Once on the brink of demolition, a family bought it up in hopes it would appeal the younger crowds. They changed the name, sterilized the interior, and paid for the opening costs with hard earned cash. Luminesque has been a booming business every since, operating between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m..
004. Momma Joe's Pantry Owned and operated by oblivious humans, the diner is still a central location for all deities in Olympia. Though it's not much to look at, Momma Joe's acts as a kind of neutral terrirrory, and is a good place for people to wheel and deal without drawning too much attention. The food ranges from made-from-scratch pancakes to greasey cheeseburgers, though the prices are friendly. Hours are 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m..
005. Pewter Mug Pub The Mug is a cliche tavern in every respect. It boasts hard wood floors, a long oak bar, and every type of liquor under the sun. Known for it's rowdy patrons, it's the kind of place a person goes to to get trashed. There is also a pair of pool tables, for those who enjoy a little quiet recreation before their bar fight, and a few video game machines in the back. Hours are 3 p.m. to 1 a.m.
006. Olympus Cemetery Since the beginning, it has accomodated the bodies of hundreds. It currently has little room for development due to the building of businesses and housing all around it, but there is still quite some space left for those whom wish to pay the expensive spot to be burried there. They also present fancy head stones, and make them. It is currently located on a hill, near the downtown plaza.
007. Belle Boutique Owned and operated by Chantal Bellemonte, it is a couture and eloquent little boutique nestled in the heart of Olympia. With the town's heavy french-canadian past, it is named after Miss Bellemonte's great-great-great grandmother's boutique from Nova Scotia. Business is booming with tourists and the like, beings the boutique is right near some very well preserved buildings. They aquire many of their clothing from top name brands, and even across the pond. Things are moderately priced down, yet not ridiculously low. A nice alternative.
008. The Coffee Dregs Not far from the college, sits this little espresso and coffee shop. Friendly environment, and nice people provide warm hospitality. They welcome walk-ins and have a whole list of different drinks, all of which consist of fren-talian. Or, you can order just a simple cup of coffee.
009. The Torn Page A book store filled to the brim with antique novels, as well as modern best sellers. If there is a book you are just craving to find, You can find it here! Quite known in Olympia, they are the only place alligned with the college, which the book store stocks for classes, getting most of its money around the time classes begin. Many are enchanted by its modern and hip appearance.
010. Temptation Temptation is yet another night club. It focuses on the alternative life styles people choose, much more on the erotic side than Luminesque. It houses a bar, window boxes along one wall where women dance, almost like a small burlesque show, along with a stage where depending on the night there are performers as well. It has dark decor, blacks, purples and reds are the main colors along with silvers and golds.
011. Olympic Valley University At Olympic Valley University, the aim to do more than teach students--the aim to reach into the depths of the past and immerse the students in rich culture, both inside and outside of the class room. Combining a rich atmosphere with teachers accredited to the highest degrees, the faculty aims not only to teach the students, but to create the new wave of intelligence and leaders for the future.
Olympic Valley University boasts a high level of academics, and an excelent graduation rate. with a ratio of 1:18 for teachers to students, the university provides a wonderful learning environment with many opportunities for the students on campus. There are many different clubs, including those for sports, as well as the major teams. Clubs like: drama, debate, and running. The clubs range, and more clubs can be created every day.
Due to the private nature of the instution, a limited amount of scholarships are offered, and the academic rate is set high. The ratio of in-state and out-of-state students stands at an impressive rate, rivaling many larger universities. The academics at OVU are strenuous, with serious professors dedicated to the learning process, students have more than enough opportunity to get real work experience and learn a tremendous amount. Some of the growing majors in the university include: physiology, anatomy, biology, and many more. There is an option for everyone.
Many students choose to live on campus in the state of the art dorm rooms, however there are other options as well.
The campus is tight-knit and frieldy. The layout is simple, the most important buildings grouped together, so that students may walk from one end of campus to the other with little problem or trouble. The buildings that make up the campus are easily navigated for the ease of the students, the library smack dab in the middle. Other perks of the immediate campus include: the north quad, a grassy area complete with benches, trees with plenty of shade, and plenty of open space--often times the North quad is used for sport and other clubs; the village is a strip along one of the main roads in the city, different shops littered along the way, including places to eat, shop for clothes or books, and other convenient places (ie: a 7/11, bank, and other important necessities). There are many landmarks on campus, which students find as they become accustomed to their surroundings.
There are many places off campus that are particularly popular, including the down town area that contains the heart of the city, restaurants, apartment buildings, the jail house, and a large library with an extensive and useful collection. There are a total of two movie theatres in Olympia, a well stocked mall, and more than enough public parks. Many of the students can be found at the movies, down town in one of the many coffee shops, or simply lounging at the park on days that aren't so busy. There are also two bowlings alleys, which have specials for students, as well as special bowling nights on Saturdays. All-in-all, there are many places to go and study, or make new friends.
Olympia, Maine, is the perfect mix of city and hometown. With a friendly atmosphere that rivals any small town and the privledge of having such a pristigous university so close, it's the perfect town and learning environment for a serious student.
